What resolution is 12MP?
12 megapixels means approximately 12 million image pixels; it does not specify one width, height or aspect ratio. 4000 × 3000 is exactly 12,000,000 pixels at 4:3. Other shapes can have nearly the same pixel count.

Is 12MP enough?
Pixel count alone does not determine quality. Lens sharpness, focus, noise, compression and cropping all matter. At 300 pixels per printed inch, a 4000 × 3000 file covers about 13.3 × 10 inches before cropping; larger prints can still work at a lower pixel density and longer viewing distance.
