Plan frame dimensions for widescreen, vertical, square and ultrawide video, then estimate the crop before reframing footage.

Common video shapes

16:9 landscape

A common widescreen frame for web video, television and presentations.

9:16 portrait

A phone-first frame for stories, reels and short-form video.

1:1 square

A compact format that can work in feeds where horizontal space is limited.

Reframe without surprises

Changing a ratio is not the same as changing resolution. A 16:9 source cannot fill a 9:16 frame without cropping, distortion or empty space.

  1. Measure the crop first.
  2. Move the crop alignment toward the subject.
  3. Check titles and faces at the final frame size.
  4. Export with the platform's current requirements.
