DPI here means pixels supplied per printed inch. It does not change the file until you resample or export it. Ask the printer whether bleed is required; bleed adds image beyond the final trim size.

Choose a useful print resolution

300 DPI is a strong target for close-viewed photos. 240 DPI is often a practical high-quality alternative, while 150 DPI may be sufficient for a larger print viewed farther away. A low-detail source does not become sharper merely by entering a higher DPI value.

Crop, bleed and orientation

A source with another aspect ratio must either be cropped or fitted with borders. Protect faces and text from both the crop and the printer's trim tolerance. Width and height can be swapped for landscape orientation without changing the required pixel count.

Is this a fixed requirement?

No. It is a calculation or planning reference. Confirm the current destination, device, printer or platform before final delivery.

Will changing dimensions improve quality?

Not by itself. Resizing can discard or interpolate pixels; it cannot recreate genuine detail that was never captured.
